Maaike Hommes is a PhD researcher and writer, currently at the GCSC in Giessen, and based in Amsterdam. She has a broad interest in relationality and critical embodiment.

Currently, she is working on unexplained illness in a dissertation that traces different routes along which understanding of unexplained illness travels. She looks at cultural objects such as film, medical texts and illness memes to focus attention on the way in which unexplained illness has a formative effect on the experience of symptoms in the body.

Research/teaching interests include philosophy/history of science, or medicine/psychiatry, crip theory, materialist feminist theory, affect theory and new materialism.
